Accelerating maritime supply chains and deploying modern automation across container handling operations, formal construction of the Laldia Container Terminal is commencing in collaboration with Denmark. Relevant project sources confirmed on Saturday, 29 August 2026, that the groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, 30 August, at 11:00 AM at the Patenga project site. Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will attend as chief guest, alongside Minister for Shipping, Road Transport & Bridges, and Railways Sheikh Robiul Alam as special guest.

Representing one of the largest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) ventures in Bangladesh's infrastructure history, the foreign direct investment exceeds $550 million. The structural engineering blueprint comprises a 615-meter-long deep-draft jetty, an automated container yard, OCR-enabled smart access gates, and integrated digital Terminal Operating Systems (TOS), delivering an annual handling capacity of approximately 0.8 million TEUs.

To maximize operational throughput, the terminal infrastructure will deploy cutting-edge electric Shore-to-Ship (STS) container gantry cranes and electrified Rubber-Tyred Gantry (e-RTG) equipment. These high-speed handling systems are engineered to drastically compress vessel turnaround times and accommodate modern high-capacity feeder vessels.

Executed under the oversight of the Ministry of Shipping and the Chittagong Port Authority, this green and automated maritime facility is positioned to enhance regional supply-chain efficiency and elevate Bangladesh's global logistics competitiveness. Senior government officials, foreign technical partners, and port engineering stakeholders will attend the inaugural ceremony.
