Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division Dr. Muha. Moniruzzaman has been appointed as the new Managing Director (MD) of Dhaka WASA to spearhead the engineering modernization of the capital's water supply, drainage, and wastewater management systems. The development was confirmed from official sources on Wednesday, 26 August 2026. The appointment was formalized through a gazette notification signed by Mohammad Nur-e-Alam, Deputy Secretary of the Deputation-1 Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration, taking immediate effect in the public interest.

The leadership transition occurs amidst growing urban population pressures, rapid infrastructure expansion, water table depletion, and monsoon urban flooding. Key technical mandates for the new management include modernizing distribution pipework to curb non-revenue water and physical leakages, transitioning reliance from deep aquifers toward surface water treatment facilities, and expanding scientific sewage processing plants to prevent effluent contamination in surrounding water bodies.

Furthermore, mitigating urban waterlogging will require close structural coordination between Dhaka WASA, the two Dhaka city corporations, and RAJUK to execute integrated hydrological drainage plans. Priority is also directed toward ensuring strict transparency, technical compliance, and cost control across ongoing capital engineering projects.

The operational roadmap highlights adopting digital utility frameworks, IoT-enabled network sensors for real-time pressure monitoring, rapid consumer grievance workflows, and climate-resilient water architectures to deliver dependable utility services across the metropolitan area.
