State Minister addresses BUET dialogue on low-carbon LT-LEDS transition
Evidence-Based Long-Term Energy Planning Urged
- Calls for empirical, long-term energy engineering plans to drive climate-resilient growth.
- LT-LEDS framed as a national industrial and clean energy transformation roadmap.
- BUET dialogue highlights measurable, transparent execution of public climate funds.
State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam has called for adopting evidence-based, pragmatic, and long-term energy engineering strategies to drive low-carbon and climate-resilient development across Bangladesh. He was addressing as the chief guest at a technical dialogue titled 'University Dialogue on People-Led LT-LEDS: Bangladesh’s Low-Carbon Future', hosted at the RISE Auditorium of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
The State Minister stated, "The Long-Term Low-Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) must not remain a ceremonial climate document. It must operate as a national engineering and development roadmap that defines our economic model, clean energy infrastructure, investment directions, workforce readiness, and ecological preservation." He added, "The core pillar of LT-LEDS rests on energy systems. Our objective is not to compromise between growth and conservation, but to build an advanced energy architecture that advances both simultaneously."
Speaking at the session, Kazi Rawnakul Islam Tipu, Managing Director of Bangladesh Climate Change Trust (BCCT), stressed that climate funding represents public trust. He noted that every allocation must produce measurable, technologically verifiable, and durable environmental returns.
The technical dialogue brought together nearly 150 university researchers, engineering students, environmental experts, faculty members, and policy partners to discuss low-emission transitions.
