A court has granted remand for two individuals arrested on charges of operating a payment gateway used for money transactions on various online gambling websites. The two accused have been identified as Md. Aminur Islam, 37, and Md. Sakib Hossain, 28.

It was learned on Monday, July 13, from the Prosecution Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) that Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam granted the remand following a hearing on Sunday, July 12.

According to the remand petition, Aminur Islam was arrested from the capital's Dolairpar area on July 11. Based on information he provided, Sakib Hossain was later arrested from the Gulshan area. Both were then produced before the court, which, after hearing arguments, granted a three-day remand for Aminur Islam and a one-day remand for Sakib Hossain.

A case has been filed against the two detained individuals at Ramna Police Station in the capital under the Gambling Prevention Act, 2026. The case was filed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Amir Hamza of the Cyber and Special Crime Division under the DMP's Detective Branch (DB). SI Zakir Hossain of the same division is leading the investigation.

The investigating officer had produced both accused before the court and sought a five-day remand for each.

Investigators claim that questioning the accused could yield important information about the financial transactions linked to online gambling, the payment gateways used, and others involved in the operation. The petition noted that further interrogation during remand is necessary for this purpose.
