Private carrier US-Bangla Airlines will add 21 brand-new Boeing 737-8 aircraft to its fleet in 2027 as part of a major fleet expansion plan. It was learned on Monday, July 13, that five of the world's leading aircraft leasing companies will supply the aircraft to US-Bangla Airlines in a deal worth approximately $1.11 billion.
According to sources, US-Bangla has organized an event at Sheraton Hotel in Dhaka on July 29. At the event, Boeing and US-Bangla Airlines will jointly make the formal announcement of the fleet expansion. The ceremony will be attended by Boeing's vice president, the US ambassador to Bangladesh, senior officials from international aircraft leasing firms, and prominent figures from the aviation and tourism sectors.
In its letter, US-Bangla stated that the addition of new aircraft is not merely a business expansion but a landmark investment in the country's aviation sector.
According to sources at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), US-Bangla Airlines sent a letter regarding the fleet expansion to BIDA's Executive Chairman, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun. The letter stated that once these Boeing aircraft, built by one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers, join the fleet, US-Bangla will develop Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet as regional hubs. Alongside Dhaka, the airline will operate flights from Chattogram and Sylhet international airports to various destinations across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
Sources at US-Bangla said the airline is bringing major changes not only in fleet size but also in passenger service. The new aircraft will feature international-standard cabin interiors and premium seating.
In addition, all aircraft will be equipped with a modern wireless in-flight entertainment system, allowing passengers to enjoy local and international movies, dramas, television shows, music, and Hollywood-Bollywood entertainment content wirelessly using their own smartphones, tablets, or laptops.
All aircraft in the new fleet will also offer in-flight Wi-Fi, enabling passengers to use the internet, send messages, and make phone calls while traveling in the air. While such facilities are already available on many of the world's leading international airlines, this will mark one of the biggest technological advancements for any private airline in Bangladesh.
