Industry leaders stress traceability, sustainability and digital compliance to strengthen global competitiveness
Seminar Maps Digital Product Passport for Bangladesh’s Footwear and Leather Goods Sector
A joint seminar by FLAXA and the Business Promotion Council explored strategies for implementing traceability and Digital Product Passport in Bangladesh’s footwear and leather goods sector to improve sustainability and export competitiveness.
A roadmap for strengthening traceability and implementing Digital Product Passport (DPP) in Bangladesh's footwear and leather goods sector was presented at a seminar in Dhaka.
Recently, at a hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka, FLAXA and the Business Promotion Council (BPC) under the Ministry of Commerce jointly organised a seminar titled "Traceability to Transparency: Roadmap to Digital Product Passport in the FLG Sector."
The event brought together manufacturers, government officials, policymakers, industry leaders, development partners and technical experts to discuss the future of traceability, sustainability and digital compliance in the footwear and leather goods sector.
Ferdous Ara Begum, Chief Executive Officer of BUILD, delivered the keynote presentation titled "Traceability Towards Transparency for Sustainability." She highlighted emerging global trade requirements and said traceability is becoming a critical requirement for accessing international markets.
The panel discussion featured Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce; Dr. Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, Chairman of RAPID; Hosna Ferdous Sumi, Senior Private Sector Specialist at the World Bank; and Ibnul Wara, Director of FLAXA.
The session was moderated by Syed Nasim Manzur, President of FLAXA. Panelists discussed the opportunities, challenges and implementation roadmap for adopting sector-wide traceability and Digital Product Passport systems.
The programme also included technical presentations titled "e-Traceability for Sustainable Leather: Lessons from the LeatherTrace Bangladesh Pilot Programme" and "Road to Digital Product Passport (DPP)."
The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to continuing industry dialogue and promoting initiatives that enhance sustainability, transparency and global competitiveness in Bangladesh's footwear and leather goods sector.
