BFUJ Secretary General Kader Gani Chowdhury urged to overcome the crisis of objective journalism and ensure strict accountability against fake and yellow journalism.
Mentioning a severe crisis of objective journalism in the country, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Secretary General Kader Gani Chowdhury urged all stakeholders to work together to overcome this challenge. He made these remarks on Monday (June 29) at a seminar titled "Freedom of Media, Resisting Aggression, and Accountable Framework," organized by the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust at its boardroom on Circuit House Road in the capital.
Criticizing yellow journalism, Kader Gani said that people are frustrated with opportunistic "armpit editors" who carry printed newspapers under their arms to lobby in government offices. Emphasizing that journalism must be entirely truth-based, he stated that the state would provide security if journalists wrote the truth. He criticized the anti-people role of partisan journalists during the recent mass uprising and urged the community to act conscientiously. He also accused Indian media of spreading continuous fake news to incite unrest in Bangladesh.
Presiding over the event, Mohammad Basir Jamal, Managing Director of the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust, stated that an independent media is essential for building a democratic and accountable state. He added that a responsible media system can only be established by ensuring security, preventing fake news, and keeping journalists free from political and economic pressures. Moderated by ABM Rফিকুল Islam, the seminar was also addressed by BFUJ Organizing Secretary Erfanul Haq Nahid, among others.
