BSRM-BRACU Partnership Pioneers School of Engineering
In a landmark collaboration between academia and industry, BRAC University and BSRM Group of Companies have jointly launched the BSRM School of Engineering, marking a pioneering step in engineering education in Bangladesh. This is the first such partnership in the country that aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial application.
The official launch took place on Wednesday at the university's Merul Badda campus during an event titled “Shaping Tomorrow: Innovation for Sustainability.” The event also featured the unveiling of the school’s official logo and website. The inauguration was jointly conducted by Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, and Ali Hussain Akber Ali, Chairman of BSRM.
Speaking on the occasion, the founders expressed their commitment to producing future-ready engineers equipped not only with technical expertise but also with innovation, ethics, and social responsibility.
Ali Hussain Akber Ali said, “Businesses have an important role in nation-building. Enterprises should collaborate with the government and other sectors in such initiatives. These efforts help move the country forward. The establishment of the BSRM School of Engineering is a testament to this vision and reflects our institution’s commitment to nation-building through education.”
Addressing the students directly, he added, “The country is calling you. Don’t look outside. Stay here, work here, grow here. Your knowledge, strength, and ideas are needed more in this country than anywhere else. If you contribute today, it will light the path for our future generations.”
Tamara Hasan Abed, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of BRAC University, remarked, “With the inauguration of the BSRM School of Engineering today, we reaffirm our commitment to shaping education as a means of dignity, justice, and opportunity.”
She added, “We are committed to creating an environment where the pursuit of knowledge is encouraged, diversity is respected, and where every student believes they are an agent of positive change.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar stated, “I believe this collaboration will merge industrial knowledge and academic expertise, and its positive impact will ripple across the globe.”
He further noted, “This collective effort by BRAC and BRAC University, combined with BSRM’s humanitarian values, makes this not just an initiative, but part of a broader social transformation.”
During the ceremony, current and former students, including a scholarship recipient from the BSRM School of Engineering, shared their experiences. The event also featured a welcome address by Professor Arshad M. Chowdhury, Dean of the new school. It was moderated by Khairul Bashar, Director of the Office of Communications at BRAC University.
