Iran-Linked Cyberattacks on Israel Triple Amid Rising Military Tensions

Cyberattacks targeting Israeli organizations have surged dramatically following the escalation of military tensions between Iran and Israel this year, according to a senior Israeli cybersecurity official. The development was reported by Reuters on Monday.

Speaking to a German newspaper, Yossi Karadi, Director General of Israel's National Cyber Directorate, said that Israeli authorities recorded approximately 1,600 cyberattacks during Israel's military campaign against Iran in June 2025. In comparison, the number of attacks during June 2026 has nearly tripled to around 4,800.

"Some hacker groups are highly sophisticated," Karadi said. "We are managing the situation, but we have to take it very seriously. Unlike conventional warfare, there is no ceasefire in cyberspace."

According to Karadi, the attacks primarily targeted Israel's critical infrastructure, central government agencies, private organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises, and ordinary citizens. Smaller organizations, including law firms and accounting or auditing companies, were also among the victims.

Emphasizing the importance of protecting national infrastructure, Karadi said, "So far, we have been able to secure our critical infrastructure, and we hope to maintain that level of protection." However, he warned that organizations with weak cybersecurity defenses had suffered severe breaches, with hackers successfully wiping all data from some computer systems. He did not disclose the identities of the affected organizations.

Iran has consistently denied allegations of carrying out cyberattacks against other countries. Instead, Tehran has repeatedly accused Israel and its allies of being responsible for cyber operations targeting Iranian networks and infrastructure.
