PM Tarique Rahman Urges Self Reliance In Space Research

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has visited the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO). The Prime Minister arrived at the SPARRSO office in Sherebangla Nagar, Agargaon, in the capital at 9:15 AM on Sunday (June 28). This was a sudden, unscheduled visit outside of his pre-determined official programs.

The Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary-1, Jahidul Islam Roni, confirmed the information. He stated that the Prime Minister went around the office of SPARRSO, an institution operating under the Ministry of Defense. He inspected every department of the organization and held instant view-exchange meetings with the officials and employees.

During the visit, SPARRSO Chairman Md. Rashidul Islam briefed the Prime Minister on various activities and overall aspects of the institution. Following this, officials from different departments of SPARRSO presented detailed reports on their innovations, research work, and ongoing projects. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed the authorities concerned to develop SPARRSO as a modern, up-to-date, self-reliant space research institution capable of contributing effectively to national security and development.

The Prime Minister's Defense Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. A K M Shamsul Islam, Defence Secretary Md. Ashraf Uddin, Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, Prime Minister's Private Secretary-2 Md. Mehedul Islam, Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary-1 Jahidul Islam Roni, and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and SPARRSO were present during the occasion. 

SPARRSO is the apex national body dedicated to space science, satellite technology, and remote sensing applications. In recent years, SPARRSO has expanded its infrastructure to utilize satellite data for climate change monitoring and disaster warning systems.
