IEB Felicitates Engineer-MPs and Independence Award Winner

Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) has honored engineer-members of the 13th National Parliament alongside engineer Dr. Mohammad Abdul Baki, who received the Independence Award–2026 for contributions to research and training.

The reception was held on Saturday (May 22) at the IEB headquarters auditorium in Ramna, Dhaka, during the closing ceremony of “Engineers Day” marking the organization’s 78th founding anniversary.

Among the engineer-lawmakers receiving recognition were Member of Parliament for Narsingdi-5 Engineer Md. Ashraf Uddin (Bakul), Member of Parliament for Manikganj-2 Engineer Moinul Islam Khan, and reserved-seat lawmakers Engineer Sanjida Islam (Tuli), Engineer Mahbuba Hakim Camelia, and Engineer Mardia Momtaz. They were presented with honorary crests and ceremonial scarves during the event.

While speaking as chief guest, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said IEB is one of the country’s most prestigious institutions and has played a vital role not only in the professional development of engineers but also in the nation’s overall progress.

He noted that development is not limited to infrastructure construction alone, but also involves integrity, accountability, and visionary planning. He further emphasized the need for engineers to play a more responsible role in achieving democratic progress and sustainable development.

In his welcome speech, IEB Honorary General Secretary Professor Dr. Engineer Md. Sabbir Mostafa Khan said month-long seminars and programs had been organized to mark the anniversary. Recommendations generated from these events would be forwarded to relevant ministries to support policymaking and development planning.

The event was chaired by IEB President and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha Chairman Engineer Mohammad Riazul Islam (Riju). He said IEB continues to contribute to the country’s technological advancement and development by enhancing professional skills and uniting engineers regardless of political affiliation.
