US President Donald Trump has temporarily stepped back from signing the widely discussed executive order aimed at imposing strict oversight and regulation on the artificial intelligence (AI) technology sector. The decision reportedly came following strong objections and last-minute lobbying efforts from leading technology companies.

Sources familiar with the matter said the White House has temporarily suspended the move over concerns that the proposed order could negatively impact rapid innovation and the domestic technology industry.

According to technology experts, the executive order was intended to regulate the unchecked use of AI, strengthen data protection, and ensure national security. However, major Silicon Valley tech giants and startup communities had opposed several provisions of the draft policy from the very beginning.

They argued that the strict restrictions proposed for AI models under the draft framework could weaken the global competitiveness of US companies if implemented.

A White House official, speaking to media outlets on condition of anonymity, said, “The administration does not want the progress of the American technology sector to slow down under excessive regulatory constraints. After discussions with top technology executives, the President believes the order requires further review before finalization.”

Meanwhile, technology analysts are viewing the successful lobbying efforts of the IT sector from mixed perspectives. One side believes the delay will help maintain the pace of innovation in the technology industry and create opportunities for new AI startups to emerge.

However, consumer rights and cybersecurity experts warned that failure to introduce legal controls on AI technology quickly could worsen the spread of deepfakes, data theft, and misinformation.

The White House said it would soon prepare a balanced and revised draft policy through discussions with technology sector stakeholders to protect both national security and innovation. However, no specific timeline has yet been announced regarding when the executive order will be finalized.
