Medical experts have said that applying CPR quickly after sudden cardiac arrest can reduce the risk of death by two to three times. They noted that after the heart stops functioning, a patient’s chance of survival decreases by nearly 10 percent every minute.

To raise awareness about life-saving emergency treatment, a Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR training workshop was held on Friday, May 21, at the academic building of Simec Health Foundation in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Participants at the workshop received hands-on training on different CPR application techniques. A total of 20 trainees completed the training in the May batch.

The workshop was conducted by Associate Professor and cardiologist Dr. Golam Morshed of the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute and Dr. Nilanjana Roy, Resident Medical Officer of Simec Health.

The event was moderated by Managing Director of Simec Health and General Secretary of Simec Health Foundation Md. Moniruzzaman. Speaking on the occasion, Director of Simec Health and Treasurer of the Foundation Md. Moinul Islam said life-saving training such as CPR should be known by everyone to handle emergency situations at home and workplaces.

In the closing speech, President of Simec Health Foundation Shaheed Salam expressed hope that such public awareness initiatives would continue in the future.

According to the physicians, incidents of sudden cardiac arrest are increasing in the country. They said that if CPR is administered properly before taking the patient to hospital, the chances of survival increase significantly.

At the event, interested individuals were encouraged to join CPR training by contacting Simec Health hotline numbers 01325775757 and 01717757593.
