DUET, NPCBL Discuss Nuclear Technology Cooperatio
A delegation from Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) paid a courtesy call and held an exchange meeting with Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Iqbal on Friday, May 22.
During the meeting held at DUET, the delegation congratulated the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor with floral greetings.
The discussion focused on the country’s energy security, environmentally friendly technology, and sustainable development. At the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Iqbal said that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is a significant milestone in ensuring Bangladesh’s energy security.
He said the development of science-, engineering-, and technology-based eco-friendly energy systems has become the need of the time in the context of growing energy demand, global warming, and limited natural resources.
The Vice-Chancellor further said Bangladesh must move further ahead in this sector through cooperation with developed countries and by creating skilled human resources. He noted that DUET graduates are already playing important roles in various sectors, including power, energy, and communications, and that many graduates are currently working at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
He also said that, as one of the country’s leading engineering and technology universities, DUET will continue to play an important role in national development and that there is scope to expand joint cooperation with NPCBL.
From DUET, Dean of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Professor Dr. Momtaz Begum, IQAC Director Professor Dr. Md. Obaidur Rahman, and teachers from different departments were present at the meeting.
The NPCBL delegation included Company Secretary S. Abdur Rashid FCS, Managers Md. Wajihur Rahman and Md. Abdus Sobhan, Senior Assistant Manager Md. Sohel Rana, Deputy Chief Superintendent S.M. Mahmud Arafat, and Human Resource Management Superintendent Md. Golam Shahinur Islam, among others.
Notably, NPCBL is a Bangladesh government-owned company responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant as well as future nuclear power plants in the country.
