Grameenphone Garners Glory for Inclusive Sign Language Service
Grameenphone, the country’s leading telecom operator, has been honored with the Recognition for Accessible Service award for its sign language-based customer support initiative ‘Signline’. This service ensures inclusive telecom accessibility for persons with speech and hearing impairments.
The recognition was presented at an event held on Thursday, May 15, at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) auditorium in Dhaka, as part of the Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) observance. The program was jointly organized by Aspire to Innovate (a2i), UNDP Bangladesh, and the international NGO Friendship.
Grameenphone’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer (CCAO), Tanvir Mohammad, received the award on behalf of the company. The chief guest at the event was Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor at the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.
Commenting on the recognition, Tanvir Mohammad said, "Grameenphone is proud to be recognized for its Signline service. We believe the digital world is for everyone. Since its launch in 2020, Signline has served not only individuals with speech and hearing disabilities but also anyone in need of accessible communication. This recognition by a2i, UNDP Bangladesh, and Friendship (INGO) inspires us to further our commitment to persons with special needs in the future."
