Intellectual Property Rights: JUST Seminar Strengthens Research Rights Awareness

A seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Awareness” for faculty members was held at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The Vice-Chancellor of JUST, Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir, attended the workshop as the chief guest.

The seminar was held on Monday (May 4) at 10:30 am at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building. It brought together teachers from various departments with the aim of encouraging innovation and research among university researchers and ensuring legal protection for innovators.

While addressing as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir stated that the seminar is highly significant for those engaged in research and aspiring to establish themselves as researchers. He emphasized that awareness of research, patents, trademarks, and copyright protection is a fundamental responsibility of every researcher. He added that the seminar would help participants learn how to file patents and preserve research work, thereby enabling both personal development and contributing to advancing the nation in knowledge and research.

The keynote paper was presented by Professor Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain Sarker of the Department of Food Engineering and Technology at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University. In his presentation, he elaborated on the patent application process and existing intellectual property laws in Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Nasrin Akter Ivy, Director of IQAC at Gazipur Agricultural University, attended the seminar as a discussant.

The workshop was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Director of IQAC. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. K. M. Anis-ul-Haque, Additional Director of IQAC. Deans of various faculties, chairpersons of different departments, and faculty members were present at the seminar. The event was moderated by Dr. Farhana Yasmin, Additional Director of IQAC.
