A colorful Baishakhi procession has been organized at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) to celebrate the Bengali New Year. From the morning of Tuesday, 14 April, a festive atmosphere spread across the university campus.
The event, which began in the morning at the Student Welfare Center area, saw spontaneous participation from teachers, students, officers, and staff, making the entire campus lively and vibrant.
At the opening ceremony, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud, formally inaugurated the New Year celebrations by releasing balloons. On the occasion, he extended greetings to all on the Bengali New Year. Later, attendees welcomed the New Year through a chorus of traditional songs.
Subsequently, a colorful procession was brought out under the leadership of the university administration. Various residential halls participated, showcasing their own traditions and cultural heritage. The procession featured palanquins, dotara, colorful replicas, and various elements of folk tradition. The rhythmic beats of drums and musical instruments created a lively environment. The procession circled the campus, passed through the city’s Phulbari Gate, and concluded upon returning to the campus.
To ensure security, members of law enforcement agencies, along with the university branch of BNCC, security personnel, and volunteers, performed their duties.
