Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir Appointed New Vice-Chancellor at JUST

Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST). He replaces the recently relieved Vice-Chancellor, Professor Md. Abdul Majid.

A gazette notification in this regard was issued on Monday, 13 April, by the Ministry of Education with the approval of the President and Chancellor of the university. The notification was signed by Assistant Secretary Md. Shah Alam Siraj on behalf of the President.

According to the notification, under Section 10 (1) of the Jashore University of Science and Technology Act, 2001, Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Jashore University of Science and Technology under the following conditions.

As per the conditions, his tenure as Vice-Chancellor will be 4 (four) years from the date of joining; he will receive salary and allowances equivalent to his current position; he will enjoy other benefits associated with the post in accordance with rules; he will remain stationed full-time on the university campus as the chief executive officer; and the Honorable President and Chancellor may cancel the appointment at any time if necessary.

A teacher of the University of Dhaka said that Professor Yarul Kabir is affiliated with the pro-BNP teachers’ organization ‘Sada Dal.’ He also contested in the 2021 election of the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association under the banner of ‘Sada Dal (White Team).’

Earlier, following the mass uprising in 2024, Professor Md. Abdul Majid of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Dhaka had been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of JUST on 23 September of that year by the interim government.
