Mymensingh City Corporation Administrator Md. Rukonuzzaman Rokon has met with teenage developer Shahed Sharif Ahmed, who created the Ghush.site website to collect complaints about bribery and corruption and raise public awareness. The meeting discussed the initiative’s future plans and the need for government support to help take the project forward.
The meeting was held at the city administrator’s office at around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1. During the meeting, they discussed Shahed’s initiative, his future plans, and what kind of government assistance would be required to advance his work. Earlier, on Monday afternoon, August 31, the Prime Minister’s Office had also contacted Shahed.
After the meeting, Mymensingh City Corporation Administrator Md. Rukonuzzaman Rokon told Jago News, “Many members of Generation Z want to work for the country and its people. I saw that drive in Shahed. We will send his future plans for Ghush.site to the Prime Minister’s Office. His initiative can help raise public awareness against unethical demands and also contribute to building a state based on equal rights.”
Shahed Sharif Ahmed said, “By analyzing the database of complaints submitted to the website, I want to identify which divisions or sectors of the country have the highest number of bribery complaints. I am also interested in cooperating with the government in this work.”
However, Shahed said that managing the initiative on his own is also affecting his studies. According to him, receiving assistance or recognition from the government would reduce some of the pressure of managing the project. At the same time, it would make it easier for him to continue the initiative alongside his studies.
During the discussion, it emerged that Shahed and members of his family had faced demands for bribes at various stages while trying to collect his late mother’s pension. The teenager also had a similar bitter experience while applying for his own passport. Motivated by these experiences, Shahed launched Ghush.site on August 21 to protest against bribery and irregularities.
After a report was published on the matter, the issue came to the attention of the relevant authorities. The Upazila Primary Education Office took steps to complete the necessary paperwork and obtain the required documents related to Shahed’s mother’s pension. At the same time, two employees concerned were issued show-cause notices over allegations of irregularities.
