37 Lakh Attempt to Book Eid Train Tickets Online, Fewer Than 36,000 Succeed
Railways Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam has said that nearly 3.7 million people attempted to purchase advance train tickets through the online platform between 3 and 9 March ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. However, based on the seating capacity of Bangladesh Railway, fewer than 36,000 passengers were able to secure tickets.
The minister shared the information with journalists on Friday (13 March) after visiting the capital’s main railway station on the first day of the Eid travel period in Dhaka.
He said, “Starting from the 3rd, we released tickets online sequentially for journeys scheduled 10 days ahead. Passengers collected their tickets online, and the Eid travel period has begun from today. After visiting the station, I have seen that everything is functioning properly so far. There was enormous pressure on the online ticketing system—around 3.7 million people tried to purchase tickets. However, according to our capacity, we were able to sell around 36,000 tickets.”
The Railways Minister also noted that a total of 21 trains had departed the station so far, with almost all leaving on schedule. Only two trains departed with delays of around 40 minutes.
Expressing satisfaction with the overall railway services during the Eid travel period, he said, “I spoke with passengers, and they are happy. However, some have expressed concerns about whether this standard of service will continue. I assured them that the current quality of railway service will be maintained at any cost and will be further improved in the future.”
