Meeting Reviews Operation Plan for Shahjalal Airport’s Third Terminal Ahead of Opening

Authorities are preparing to open the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport soon, aiming to ensure maximum convenience for passengers. Relevant officials are currently working on the final steps for its inauguration.

In this regard, an important meeting on the operation and maintenance of the third terminal was held on Friday morning (13 March) at the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bangladesh.

Chaired by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam (Rita), the meeting held detailed discussions on a proposal presented by the Japanese delegation regarding the management and maintenance of the third terminal.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, key issues discussed included the airport’s embarkation fee, revenue sharing arrangements, and upfront fees.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Afroza Khanam (Rita) said the government is working to inaugurate the third terminal as soon as possible while ensuring the highest level of convenience for passengers.

At the meeting, State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat urged the Japanese side to submit a revised proposal promptly. Discussions were also held about arranging another meeting on the matter toward the end of March.

From the Bangladeshi side, those present included Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Nasreen Jahan, and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq, along with other senior officials.

Members of the Japanese delegation included Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh Takahashi Naoki and Assistant Vice Minister of Japan’s Ministry of Land Infrastructure Transport and Tourism Japan Rieko Nakayama, along with other senior officials.
