Smart Farmer Card to Slash Middlemen, Says Information Minister
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that the government is moving toward introducing a Smart Farmer Card to reduce the dominance of middlemen.
He made the remarks on Monday afternoon, February 23, after emerging from an inter-ministerial meeting on the Farmer Card held at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Responding to a question from journalists, Zahir Uddin Swapan said that the Prime Minister is holding a meeting on the Farmer Card with the participation of ministers from all relevant ministries. He noted that this was the first meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to implement the decision regarding the agricultural card. “InshaAllah, we are going to start the pilot project of the Farmer Card as quickly as possible, similar to the Family Card,” he said.
He further stated that the pilot project would be launched soon, following the model of the Family Card. With the Farmer Card, there will be direct communication between the state and the card-holding farmer. Any problem faced by a farmer will be known directly to the state, and there will be no middlemen involved.
