Free Wi-Fi Planned for Airports, Railway Stations and High-Speed Vehicles: Minister

Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and for Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam has announced that free Wi-Fi facilities will be provided at airports, railway stations, and even in high-speed vehicles. He said the initiative would be implemented soon in accordance with the directive of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The minister disclosed this information on Friday morning, February 27, while responding to questions from journalists before attending an exchange meeting with district-level government officials at the Tangail Deputy Commissioner’s Office as the chief guest. He also revealed plans to establish ICT parks in every upazila of his constituency, Tangail district.

Fakir Mahbub Anam said, “In the present era, ICT is the most important sector. The Prime Minister has many plans regarding the IT sector. We want to create many jobs and ensure that internet services reach every household. The Prime Minister has instructed us to arrange free Wi-Fi facilities at airports, railway stations, and even in high-speed vehicles.”

He further stated that the Prime Minister has directed the ministry on how to increase investment in three major tech parks. “We are trying to attract foreign investment. We will move forward step by step. We want to become a people-friendly government. We also want development initiatives in Tangail. We can consider establishing ICT parks in every upazila of the district,” he added.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque. Among those present were Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarker, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjoy Kumar Mahanta, and other senior officials from various government departments.
