As part of its strategy to ramp up investment in artificial intelligence–driven products, Adobe has decided to discontinue its more than two-decade-old 2D animation software, Adobe Animate. The company announced that the software will be officially shut down starting 1 March 2026.

Adobe issued a notice regarding the decision on Monday through its support website and also informed customers via email, according to a report by TechCrunch.

According to Adobe, corporate or enterprise customers will continue to receive technical support until 1 March 2029, while support for other users will remain available until March 2027.

The announcement has sparked frustration and disappointment among users, many of whom argue that there are very few comprehensive alternatives to a tool like Animate currently available in the market.

In an explanation, Adobe said that evolving technologies have introduced new platforms and workflows that better meet the needs of today’s users. Analysts believe the move clearly signals that AI-based products now sit at the core of Adobe’s future strategy.
