Sophos Strengthens Hybrid Security with Workspace Protection
Cybersecurity firm Sophos is set to add Workspace Protection to its service portfolio to ensure stronger security for hybrid work environments. The service will help organisations control the use of AI-driven and other emerging technologies in the workplace. According to Sophos, the solution is built on the Sophos Protected Browser, powered by Island technology, and is designed to remain effective from any location while making it easier to secure modern office environments.
Sophos said the approach eliminates the need to route data through a central infrastructure, thereby reducing both costs and operational complexity. It enables employees to work from anywhere while keeping applications, internet usage, and data access integrated under the Workspace Protection service. As nearly 85 percent of work activities now take place in web browsers, the solution helps organisations maintain effective oversight of work processes. It allows protection of sensitive data and control over application usage without disrupting productivity, and policies can be enforced seamlessly across both office-based and remote work settings.
Research shows that more than half of employees worldwide are currently using AI tools at work without any formal policy in place. As a result, the risks associated with shadow IT and unauthorised AI use (shadow AI) are increasing. Sophos Workspace Protection enables organisations to easily monitor and control how technology is being used in the work environment, reducing risk and ensuring safer operations for hybrid workers. At the core of the service is the Sophos Protected Browser, a Chromium-based secure enterprise browser that manages application usage, local data handling, and web access. It also supports Sophos ZTNA, SSH, and RDP services for secure remote access.
Sophos also offers a Zero Trust Access framework through its ZTNA service, ensuring that only authorised users and policy-compliant devices can access private applications. In addition, Sophos DNS Protection blocks malicious domains on Windows endpoints and provides cloud-based protection against web-based and phishing threats. Its email monitoring system integrates with Google and Microsoft email services to detect and prevent phishing attempts and malicious messages.
