Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb Reviews Cox’s Bazar Submarine Cable Project to Boost Bandwidth

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser with responsibility for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, has inspected the Third Submarine Cable Installation (Second Revised) Project of Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCCL) and its associated landing station in Cox’s Bazar, aimed at expanding Bangladesh’s international telecommunications capacity.

During the visit on Monday, December 29, Taiyeb was briefed on the project’s overall progress, technical capacity, operational management, and future plans. He toured key installations of the landing station and exchanged views with officials and staff involved in the project.

Following the inspection, he planted a sapling of a Thai longan tree on the premises of Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC.

Earlier, at an exchange meeting, Taiyeb urged all stakeholders to work in a coordinated manner to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality telecommunications services. He said strengthening submarine cable infrastructure is crucial for reinforcing the country’s digital backbone. Implementation of the SMW-6 project will enhance international telecommunications facilities and significantly increase national internet bandwidth capacity, which will indirectly contribute to socio-economic development and the vision of a prosperous Bangladesh.

He also called upon BSCCL officials and employees to continue working with professionalism, dedication, and sincerity to ensure reliable and quality telecommunications services nationwide.

The third submarine cable, SMW-6, will extend from Cox’s Bazar toward Singapore on one side and France on the other, enabling core cable connectivity with renowned data centers in Singapore, India, Djibouti, and France.

The inspection and exchange meeting were attended by Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC Managing Director Md Aslam Hossain, along with other senior officials.
