BSC PLC Among ICSB Award Winners for Governance Excellence
The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) has awarded 43 private-sector organisations in recognition of excellence in corporate governance, transparency, and accountability. Notably, a government-owned entity also received the honour this year, making it the only state-run organisation to be recognised.
Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) received the ICSB National Award 2024 (Bronze) in the telecommunications category for excellence in corporate governance. In the same category, Grameenphone won the Gold award, while Robi Axiata secured Silver.
The awards ceremony was held on Monday night, December 15, at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Ballroom in Dhaka. Engineer Md Aslam Hossain, Managing Director of BSCPLC, accepted the bronze medal on behalf of the organisation. He was accompanied by Deputy General Manager (Customer Care) Md Abdus Salam and Deputy General Manager (Sales and Marketing) Md Ariful Haque.
In the Information and Communication Technology category, ADN Telecom won Gold, Aamra Networks Silver, and Daffodil Computers Bronze. In the Engineering category, Walton Hi-Tech Industries received Gold, Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills and BSRM Steels jointly won Silver, while Rangpur Foundry secured Bronze.
In Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals, Reckitt Benckiser (Bangladesh) won Gold, Ibn Sina Pharmaceutical Silver, and Square Pharmaceuticals Bronze. In the Textile and Garments category, Paramount Textile received Gold, Matin Spinning Mills and Tusrifa Industries Silver, and Envoy Textile Bronze.
In General Banking, BRAC Bank won Gold, Eastern Bank Silver, and City Bank Bronze. Shahjalal Islami Bank won Gold in Islamic Banking. In the Non-Banking Financial Institution category, IDLC Finance secured Gold, DBH Finance Silver, and IPDC Finance Bronze.
In General Insurance, City Insurance and Sena Insurance jointly won Gold, Green Delta Insurance Silver, and Reliance Insurance Bronze. Sandhani Life Insurance received Silver in the Life Insurance category, while National Life Insurance and Chartered Life Insurance jointly won Bronze.
In the Food and Allied category, Unilever Consumer Care won Gold, Olympic Industries Silver, and Agricultural Marketing Company and Golden Harvest Agro Industries Bronze. In Fuel and Power, Linde Bangladesh secured Gold, while United Power Generation and Distribution Company and Doreen Power Generations and Systems jointly received Bronze. In the Services category, Unique Hotel and Resorts won Gold, and Eastern Housing received Silver.
The awards were presented by Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy on International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, and Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H. Mansur.
ICSB President Hossain Sadat presided over the event. Speakers included Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Md Habibur Rahman, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Commissioner Md Saifuddin, and Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Chairman Md Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan, among others.
ICSB stated that the awards were conferred based on listed companies’ compliance with corporate governance standards, transparency, accountability, and alignment with the BSEC Corporate Governance Code for 2024. The theme of this year’s awards was “Promoting Governing Excellence.” This marks the 12th edition of the ICSB National Award.
