ChatGPT’s voice mode no longer needs to be opened in a separate tab. Users can now use voice directly within the main chat interface, making conversations more natural and convenient, reports Engadget.

Previously, enabling voice mode required switching to a separate blue circular screen, where users could only listen to ChatGPT’s responses. It was not possible to view previous messages or visual content such as images from that screen. As a result, if any response was missed, users had to switch back to text mode to view it—an experience many found inconvenient.

With the new update, users will now be able to view ChatGPT’s responses on-screen while speaking. They can check previous messages, and view visual content like images or maps in real time—all in one place. Switching between voice and text modes will also be seamless. However, to stop speaking mode, users must tap “End.”

This upgraded voice experience is now being rolled out as a default feature and will gradually become available to all users on both web and mobile platforms.

For those who prefer the old, separate voice mode, they can return to the previous interface by going to Settings → “Voice Mode” and enabling the new “Separate Mode” option.
