Rajshahi University (RU) has introduced five environment-friendly e-cars to facilitate student transportation within the campus, with fares expected to remain between Tk 5 and Tk 10.

According to university sources, the newly launched e-cars will operate only inside the campus. Although the service has officially begun, the exact fare and operating hours have not yet been finalized. Initially, five vehicles have been deployed, but more are likely to be added soon.

Funded by the Rajshahi University Alumni Association (RUAA), the e-cars were inaugurated on Wednesday, 26 November, in front of the university’s administration building.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by RU Vice-Chancellor Professor Saleh Hasan Naqib; RUAA President Professor Rafiqul Islam Khan; General Secretary Professor Nizam Uddin; Executive Member and Jamaat-backed candidate for Chapainawabganj-3 constituency Nurul Islam Bulbul, among others.

RUA President Professor Rafiqul Islam Khan said, “Although five e-cars have been arranged today, we will work with the authorities to increase the number in phases. We also plan to introduce scholarships for poor meritorious students, which will begin very soon. For the overall development of the university, RUA will always stand beside the administration.”

RakSU Vice-President Mostakur Rahman Jahid said, “One of our manifesto commitments was to improve the transportation system. We placed this demand before RUA, and today they have implemented it. We hope this initiative will significantly ease student suffering. We will also seek RUA’s support to implement other manifesto commitments.”

RU Vice-Chancellor Professor Saleh Hasan Naqib said, “I am very pleased that the newly elected RUA representatives have been actively working for the welfare of students and the overall development of the university since assuming office. From supporting BCS examinees to launching this e-car service—these initiatives reflect their consistent efforts. This e-car service is just the beginning.”

The inauguration event was attended by leaders of the central and hall-level RakSU bodies, as well as teachers and students from various departments and institutes.
