Bangladesh Team Joins IJSO 2025 Opening Ceremony in Sochi
A ten-member Bangladesh team is currently in the Russian coastal city of Sochi. Located on the shores of the Black Sea, the team attended the grand opening ceremony of the 22nd International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO 2025). Alongside Bangladesh, 24 countries from around the world are participating in this year’s event. Representing the country are six students, three team leaders, and one observer in this prestigious global science competition for participants under the age of sixteen.
Russia’s Minister of Education, Sergey Kravtsov, and President of the International Junior Science Olympiad, Dr. Emiel de Klein, delivered welcome speeches and officially inaugurated the youth science competition. Also present were Elena Shmeleva, Chair of the Sirius Federal Territory Council and head of the Talent and Success Educational Foundation.
Bangladesh’s team was selected through a rigorous six-month preparation and screening process. After competing in school, regional, and national rounds of the Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad (BdJSO), students participated in multiple residential training camps and exams to earn a place among the top six. This entire program has been successfully conducted for over a decade by the Bangladesh Science Popularization Association.
Following the opening ceremony, the team leaders said that the Bangladeshi students are confident and ready to uphold the honor of the national flag in the international arena. Tomorrow’s Practical exam will begin this year’s competition segment, followed by a one-day break before the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology theoretical exams. Results will be announced on the final day of the Olympiad.
