Protesting Pupils Persist: Engineering Students Stage Sit-In at InterContinental
Engineering students in Dhaka have taken position in front of Hotel InterContinental following repeated clashes and counter-clashes. A large contingent of law enforcement personnel remains on alert nearby.
On Wednesday, August 27, at 3:00 pm, the students gathered in front of the InterContinental. Saquibul Islam Lipu, General Secretary of the Engineering Rights Movement, declared, “We will not leave this place until the attackers are brought to justice and our demands are fulfilled.”
Earlier, as part of their pre-announced “Long March to Dhaka” program, the students attempted to proceed from Shahbagh towards the Chief Adviser’s residence at Jamuna. Police intervened, firing tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse the procession. Several BUET students were injured during the confrontation.
