Starlink Delegation to Explore Digital Expansion in Bangladesh

On the anniversary of the internet blackout, a high-level delegation from Starlink, the satellite-based internet subsidiary of U.S. aerospace company SpaceX, is set to arrive in Dhaka on July 18. The team will be led by Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Business Operations at Starlink. She will be joined by Richard Griffiths, Director of International Strategy and Government Relations.

According to sources from the ICT and Telecom Division, the delegation’s visit aims to assess potential investment opportunities and partnerships to enhance Bangladesh’s digital and communication infrastructure. Starlink sees Bangladesh as a strategic market, particularly for deploying new technologies and expanding internet access to remote and rural areas.

The team, under Dreyer’s leadership, is scheduled to meet with government officials and policy-makers to discuss viable collaboration. Following the meetings, an official announcement will be made in the evening to mark Starlink’s formal entry into Bangladesh.

Sources also confirm that the delegation will meet Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the interim government. Later in the evening, the team will address a press conference at 5:00 PM at Hotel InterContinental, followed by participation in the “July Awakening” celebration at Hatirjheel. The delegation is expected to depart on July 19.

Before their departure, Starlink is anticipated to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL), appointing a local representative for operations in the country.

At the scheduled 5:00 PM media briefing, Starlink’s Vice President Lauren Dreyer will be joined by several high-profile dignitaries including Dr. Khalilur Rahman, National Security Advisor; Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT; Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor; Zahidul Islam, Acting Secretary of the Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Ministry; Dr. Imadur Rahman, Managing Director of BSCL; and Md. Aslam Hossain, Managing Director of Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCCL).

The visit signals a significant step toward strengthening Bangladesh’s digital connectivity and infrastructure, especially in underserved areas.
