Budget Broadcast Breakthrough: Dr. Salehuddin to Announce FY 2025-26 Budget from BTV Studio for the First Time
Due to the upcoming Eid holidays, the national budget for the fiscal year 2025–2026 will be announced slightly earlier than usual. On Monday, June 2, at 3:00 PM, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the Economic Adviser to the caretaker government, will unveil a Tk 7.90 trillion budget live from the studio of Bangladesh Television (BTV), marking the first time in the country’s history that the budget will be presented from a television studio instead of the parliament.
According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, a special meeting of the Advisory Council will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday at the office of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The proposed budget will be approved during this meeting, which will be chaired by Dr. Yunus. Following the council’s approval, the budget will be signed by President Md. Shahabuddin.
Later that day, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed is scheduled to arrive at the BTV building in Rampura with the budget documents. The live budget speech will be aired from the BTV studio at 3:00 PM. The budget documents will be made available on the website of the Finance Division immediately after the speech. Accredited journalists with access to the Secretariat will also be able to collect printed copies of the speech and budget documents from the Department of Information starting at 3:00 PM.
A government press release has requested all private television channels and radio stations to broadcast the budget simultaneously by taking the live feed from BTV, as the speech will be aired one hour earlier than originally announced.
Earlier, on May 29, it was announced via an official statement that the recorded budget speech would be aired at 4:00 PM on June 2 on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar. However, a follow-up government briefing has now clarified that Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed will deliver the national budget speech live at 3:00 PM instead.
Following the budget announcement, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed is expected to hold a press conference the next day.
