Popular game streaming platform Twitch is introducing significant upgrades to its user experience, including support for 1440p video resolution and vertical game streaming optimized for mobile users. The announcements were made by Twitch CEO Dan Clancy at TwitchCon Europe, according to a report by Engadget.

The report states that the new portrait mode streaming is designed specifically for mobile users, allowing them to enjoy streams without rotating their screens. This feature will enable simultaneous streaming in both vertical and horizontal formats. Known as “dual-format” streaming, this technology will be rolled out experimentally to selected channels during the summer, with a broader release planned later.

Support for 1440p streaming begins today for Twitch Partners and Affiliates, though it is still in open beta. The higher resolution is made more efficient through the use of an advanced HEVC codec, allowing high-quality video to be delivered with lower bandwidth usage.

Additionally, Twitch is introducing a rewind feature, enabling viewers to go back and catch up on missed moments in a stream. This functionality is also expected to launch in test mode over the summer.
