China to Support Bangladesh in Five Key Areas including construction of a robotic physiotherapy and rehab center
China has assured Bangladesh of cooperation in five key areas, including the construction of a robotic physiotherapy and rehabilitation center and the donation of a cardiac surgery vehicle.
The other three areas of support include initiating investment discussions, launching China’s specialized economic zone in Bangladesh, and modernizing Mongla Port.
On Friday, March 28, the third day of Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus' four-day visit to China, both countries signed bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen their collaboration.
Economic and Technological Cooperation Agreement Signed
According to meeting sources, an economic and technological cooperation agreement was signed between Bangladesh and China, along with eight MoUs covering various sectors.
The MoUs include cooperation in translating and promoting timeless literary and artistic works from both countries, exchanging cultural heritage and news, as well as fostering collaboration in media, sports, and healthcare.
Additionally, the official announcement of the five areas of cooperation was made during the Chief Adviser’s bilateral visit.
China Pledges $2.1 Billion in Investments, Loans, and Grants
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, revealed that Bangladesh has secured commitments worth $2.1 billion in investments, loans, and grants from the Chinese government and companies.
Bangladeshi officials, along with the Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka, Yao Wen, stated that around 30 Chinese companies have committed to investing $1 billion in Bangladesh’s Exclusive China Industrial Economic Zone. This commitment follows the Chief Adviser’s encouragement to Chinese private enterprises to invest in Bangladesh’s manufacturing sector.
China has also outlined plans to provide $400 million in loans for the Mongla Port modernization project, $350 million for the development of the China Industrial Economic Zone, and $150 million for technological assistance. The remaining funds will come in the form of grants and additional loans.
