Taiyeb Takes Leave, Returns to Netherlands After Interim Tenure
After serving nearly a year and a half in the interim government, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb has returned to the Netherlands to reunite with his family.
Following a formal handover and farewell ceremony, and after casting his vote in the 13th National Parliament election, Taiyeb departed Bangladesh on Saturday, February 14.
Airport sources said he left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:00am on an Emirates flight (EK-583).
When contacted via WhatsApp, Taiyeb did not explicitly confirm his departure from the country but reflected on his tenure, saying, “I can say that I gave my very best in a short period of time. In a ministry that was considered highly corrupt, I introduced new management practices, new technologies, and transparency. I worked relentlessly to reform old laws and policies. These were tasks meant for five years.”
He added, “I can say before Allah that I did not commit a single taka of corruption. By virtue, I am an honest person. I cannot accept allegations that I misappropriated money. Mobile business groups and telecom mafias campaigned against me, but I did not bow to them. I will now look for a job and return to my normal life.”
Taiyeb also said that he had left behind a safe life abroad and endured separation from his wife and children to serve the country. “Some people tried to insult and humiliate me in various ways. At times, I feel that many influential individuals in this country do not deserve honest and knowledge-driven leadership. That pain has deeply affected me. I am an ordinary person—I live simply, eat simply, and move about simply. I remain honest and transparent to myself. Please keep me in your prayers,” he said.
It is learned that Taiyeb had earlier surrendered his official red passport. On February 9 and 10, he was formally bid farewell by the ICT Division and the Telecom Division. On February 12, he took official leave from the Chief Adviser on the day of the election.
Notably, Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb was appointed as Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser with the status of State Minister on March 5, 2025. Prior to that, the BUET graduate was appointed as ICT Policy Adviser in November 2024.
