Actress Nijhum Rubina Escapes Abduction by Leaping from Ride-Sharing Car

Dhaka-based actress Nijhum Rubina narrowly escaped a terrifying incident involving a ride-sharing car by jumping out to save her life. The incident occurred while she was traveling from Banasree to Dhanmondi. She shared the ordeal in a Facebook post and a tearful video message recounting the horrifying experience.
On Wednesday evening, Nijhum Rubina revealed that she had filed a general diary (GD) with Hatirjheel Police Station regarding the incident. The GD, numbered 1237, details the events that transpired. According to her account, on Tuesday at 12:30 PM, she booked a car through a ride-sharing app. The driver, identified as Md. Rocky, arrived at her Banasree residence with a Toyota Corolla Axio bearing the registration number Dhaka Metro-G-452978. Although the trip was supposed to end in Dhanmondi, the driver attempted to divert the vehicle toward Gulshan, leading to a heated confrontation. Despite her screams for help, the driver refused to stop the car.
In her Facebook post, Rubina explained, “My husband is visiting our village home, so I had to leave my car behind as I don’t know how to drive. That’s why I booked a ride-sharing service to travel from Banasree to Dhanmondi. The driver entered Gulshan instead of heading straight to Dhanmondi via Hatirjheel. When I asked, he said, ‘I’m going to your location; stay quiet.’ The roads were relatively empty on Tuesday, yet he sped toward Gulshan, driving at 80–100 km/h. I grew suspicious and told him to drop me off immediately. He then replied, ‘Stay quiet. Don’t talk.’ I rolled down the window and started screaming for help, yelling, ‘Save me! Save me!’ but no one responded. At one point, when the car slowed down slightly, I jumped out to save myself.”
Raising concerns about safety, the actress wrote, “What kind of country are we living in? Can we not feel safe even during broad daylight? If I hadn’t jumped out of that car, would anyone have ever found me?”
This alarming incident has sparked questions about the safety and accountability of ride-sharing services in the country. Police investigations are expected to follow.
