Education Budget Increased by 56% to Fulfill July Aspirations; Martyr Alamin’s Family Honored at Campus Seminar
JUST Commemorates July Mass Uprising Day; UGC Member Prof. Abdullah-Al-Mamun Speaks
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) commemorated 'July Mass Uprising Day 2026' with grand festivities, including a victory rally, art competition, cake cutting, and a memorial seminar. UGC Member Professor Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun attended the event as the chief guest on Wednesday, August 5. Martyr Alamin's family and injured freedom fighters were honored during the ceremony.
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) observed 'July Mass Uprising Day 2026' through a series of patriotic and cultural programs, including flag hoisting, a victory rally, balloon release, cake cutting, and an essay and painting competition for children. The day’s proceedings commenced at 9:30 AM today (Wednesday) with the unfurling of the national and university flags in front of the administrative building, followed by a victory procession led by the Vice-Chancellor.
After the rally, the university administration joined the 'July Warriors' and children in a cake-cutting ceremony. Subsequently, a seminar titled “July 2024: Mass Uprising, Struggle, and Dreams of a New Bangladesh” and a reception were held at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery. During the event, a crest of honor was presented to the family of martyr Alamin from Jashore. The seminar was presided over by JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yaearul Kabir, with University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Professor Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun gracing the occasion as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, UGC Member Professor Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun noted, "The 2024 uprising was not confined to students alone; it united people from all walks of life in their shared desire to eradicate fascism and establish an inclusive society." Emphasizing educational reforms, he revealed that the government has prioritized education by increasing this year's budget by nearly 56% compared to the previous year, targeting 5% of GDP over the next 5 years. He also highlighted new initiatives, including a 'Reverse Brain Drain' fund to bring back talented expatriates, pilot projects for teaching third languages in universities, establishing 'AI Cities' in divisional departments, and assessing new infrastructure projects for JUST.
In his presidential address, JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yaearul Kabir outlined his administration's performance over the past four months aimed at upgrading research and academic standards, seeking continued support from faculty and students.
The day concluded with special prayers (doa) at the central mosque following Zuhr prayers for the departed souls of the July martyrs and the speedy recovery of the injured. Additionally, special improved meals were served across all residential halls of JUST.
