Blending planned vehicle management, aquatic ecosystem conservation, and botanical greening, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has taken a progressive step to make its campus more aesthetic and eco-friendly by inaugurating a newly constructed vehicle parking space and a lotus pond at the Faculty of Agriculture. On Thursday morning (October 15, 2026), University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sarder officially inaugurated the facilities as chief guest at a ceremony organized by the Faculty's Aesthetics Committee. Presided over by Faculty Dean Professor Dr. G. M. Mujibur Rahman, the event was attended by senior faculty members, researchers, and student representatives.

In his opening remarks, Dean Professor Dr. G. M. Mujibur Rahman stated that the initiative was designed to enhance the environmental beauty of the agricultural faculty while securing dedicated parking facilities for teachers. He noted that these infrastructure additions create a disciplined, serene, and functional atmosphere conducive to academic excellence.

Chief Guest Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sarder commended the Aesthetics Committee for the timely implementation. Highlighting campus infrastructure goals, he remarked, “Given contemporary requirements, proper parking facilities for faculty members were long overdue. Prioritizing environmental science and biodiversity principles, we will continue expanding sustainable development initiatives and modern amenities across all academic blocks of the university.”

From an environmental science and agritech perspective, integrating ecological considerations into campus architecture fosters both visual beauty and natural resource management. Regular maintenance of the lotus pond, water quality monitoring, and aquatic balance preservation transform it into a sustainable retention reservoir. Meanwhile, organized parking layouts improve spatial efficiency and pedestrian safety. Incorporating green technologies such as rainwater harvesting and eco-friendly drainage in future phases will further elevate the environmental efficacy of these structures.

Speaking on behalf of the student body, Faculty of Agriculture student representative Sheikh Md. Sanaullah expressed appreciation, noting that resolving long-standing parking deficits and improving faculty aesthetics had been a shared priority. He pointed out that inadequate parking previously forced students to store bicycles in corridors, creating mobility and safety bottlenecks. While partial parking arrangements have been established through cooperation between the Dean's office and student associations, he appealed for the construction of two fully-roofed parking garages to accommodate both faculty and students.
