The government is actively working to transform the Postal Department into a modern, citizen-centric, and profitable state institution, stated Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Faqir Mahboob Anam. He was speaking as the chief guest at the official unveiling of a commemorative postage stamp and awards ceremony held on World Post Day 2026 at the Dak Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Thursday (October 15, 2026). Highlighting digital postal technology, he laid out the future operational roadmap for the sector.

The Minister highlighted that public confidence in state postal services is rising steadily, alongside positive growth in international parcel logistics. To sustain this momentum, he called for dedication and accountability across all administrative tiers. Noting that foreign investors have expressed strong interest in injecting capital into the post office network, he expressed optimism that service quality, revenue generation, and technical capacity will expand significantly.

Addressing rumors regarding the Mobile Financial Service (MFS) platform ‘Nagad’, the Minister clarified that the government currently has no plans to sell Nagad. Instead, comprehensive initiatives are underway to upgrade its digital fintech infrastructure, making it more modern, secure, and commercially viable.

Responding to queries on the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project, the Minister assured that domestic and international nuclear engineering experts are working continuously to bring the plant online. The government is managing the necessary technical evaluations and safety trials required before integrating the power plant into the national electrical grid, strictly prioritizing aeronautical and technical compliance standards.

Addressing postal employees, he emphasized that professional recognition motivates workforce performance, asserting that merit-based awards must continue down to field-level post offices.

Speaking as the special guest, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, Ms. Bilkis Jahan Rimi, noted that the nation's vast postal infrastructure and nationwide post office network must be leveraged to deliver tech-driven services. She announced reforms, including integration with land service support centers and the expansion of postal franchise operations, aimed at expanding rural service delivery and creating new employment. She also stressed using social media for postal outreach.

This year, World Post Day was observed under the theme “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities”. Following the global observance on October 9, a nationwide ‘Postal Service Week’ is being held from October 9 to 15. To mark the occasion, an official commemorative postage stamp depicting the theme was formally released today.

Centralized and regional programs during Postal Service Week included letter-writing festivals, philatelic exhibitions, essay and art competitions, and seminars. A total of 26 venues—including 25 universities and colleges, alongside Cox's Bazar sea beach—hosted interactive postal fairs. Over the week, approximately 4,643 physical letters were dispatched through these festivals, rekindling interest in handwriting among younger demographics.

During the ceremony, a total of 29 individuals received special honors: 5 students for winning the essay and art competitions, 3 students for the 55th International Letter-Writing Competition, 4 employees for postal ballot operations, 6 employees for letter post services, 5 officers for administrative excellence, and 6 channel representatives across Nagad distributor, agent, and customer service categories.

The event was chaired by Kazi Asadul Islam, Director General of the Directorate of Posts, and attended by senior officials and staff of the department.
