In recognition of extensive contributions to infrastructure engineering and public administration, former Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Engineer Md. Shahidul Hasan, has been elevated to the rank of Senior Secretary. Alongside him, Public Administration Ministry Secretary Md. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury and Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleq have also been conferred Senior Secretary status. On Wednesday night (October 14, 2026), the Ministry of Public Administration published an official gazette confirming the elevation for the three contractual secretaries.

Engineer Md. Shahidul Hasan was appointed as Secretary of the Local Government Division on a one-year contractual basis on March 3, 2026. Renowned in civil engineering circles, he was widely regarded as the "Chief General" of the late Kamrul Islam Siddique, the legendary founding Chief Engineer of LGED who laid the technological and structural foundations for Bangladesh's rural infrastructure. Professionally distinguished, Engineer Hasan is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB)—the apex national engineering body—and an International Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Among the other two elevated officials, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleq belongs to the 1984 batch of the BCS (Administration) Cadre. Meanwhile, Public Administration Secretary Md. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury belongs to the 1985 BCS batch and previously served as Secretary of the Health Services Division. Both senior administrators were re-appointed on a one-year contractual tenure on March 3, 2026.

Engineering leaders and tech policy analysts hailed the elevation of Engineer Md. Shahidul Hasan, noting that integrating veteran civil engineers into top-tier administrative posts strengthens technical execution and modern infrastructure design across Bangladesh. //DBTech/IH/SMP/OME//
