LPG Engine Tech Cuts Fuel Costs By Forty Percent
Mitsubishi Motors Locally Assembles Xpander Eco In Bangladesh
- Mitsubishi Motors Bangladesh launches locally assembled Xpander Eco powered by LPG tech
- The 7-seater SUV is built at Rancon Industrial Park in Gazipur
- Priced at 3.6 million BDT, featuring a 5-year LPG kit warranty
To address rising fuel costs, Mitsubishi Motors Bangladesh has introduced the locally assembled 7-seater 'Mitsubishi Xpander Eco', featuring factory-integrated Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) technology. On Wednesday (October 14, 2026), the automaker confirmed that the multi-purpose SUV is being built at Rancon Industrial Park in Gazipur. Utilizing modern automotive engineering standards, the LPG-powered vehicle slashes per-kilometer fuel expenditure by approximately 40 percent compared to conventional octane-driven engines.
Unlike hybrid vehicles—which require high maintenance for lithium-ion battery packs, electric motors, and regenerative brake boosters—the LPG layout provides low-maintenance efficiency. Furthermore, LPG operates at significantly lower pressures than CNG, allowing for lighter, compact tanks. The Xpander Eco runs at an economical operational cost of BDT 7 per kilometer.
According to Mitsubishi Motors Bangladesh, the Gazipur plant manufactures four variants of the 7-seater SUV: Eco, Classic, Premium, and Sports. All non-Eco variants can also be retrofitted for LPG compatibility. Assembled locally under standardized quality controls, these vehicles are priced up to 20 percent lower than their imported CBU (Completely Built Up) counterparts.
Under the hood, the Xpander Eco is driven by a 1.5-liter MIVEC engine. Designed for local road infrastructure, the vehicle features a 220 mm ground clearance for improved chassis stability across uneven terrain. European-grade LPG kits are directly integrated into the vehicle assembly process to ensure maximum safety.
To maximize interior cargo space, the 40-liter LPG cylinder is installed under the rear chassis, keeping the entire boot space fully accessible. Paired with a secondary 45-liter octane fuel tank, the vehicle provides dual-fuel range for long-distance travel. The Mitsubishi Xpander Eco is officially priced at BDT 3.6 million (36 Lakh BDT), bundled with a 5-year warranty on the LPG kit and one year of free routine servicing.
