Following a continuous 28-hour blockade at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam has been successfully evacuated. The rescue operation was executed under the direct supervision and security presence of Chittagong District Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, alongside Chittagong Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Masud Alam. On Tuesday evening (October 13, 2026) at around 6:15 PM, the blockaded Vice-Chancellor was extracted from the administration building under heavy police escort.

"We managed to resolve the matter without any major complications," stated Chittagong Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Masud Alam. "The Vice-Chancellor is a highly respected individual who fell ill after being besieged for an extended period. As citizens, our primary objective was to ensure his immediate medical care. We will address the subsequent issues once his treatment is complete."
When discussing the nature of the operation, SP Alam noted that the police appealed to the students by highlighting the Vice-Chancellor's personal ties to the institution as a senior alumnus. He explained that authorities advised the students to maintain a respectful demeanor toward him as a senior, regardless of whether they agreed with his administrative decisions. According to the SP, the students understood the perspective and engaged respectfully, allowing the rescue operation to conclude without any significant resistance.

Earlier in the afternoon, as the District Commissioner and Superintendent of Police arrived on campus, students gathered in front of the VC building to voice their discontent. Addressing journalists and students, the District Commissioner stated that as a respected individual requiring medical attention, the administration intervened primarily to transfer him safely to a hospital.

During the gathering, Ahnaf Shahriar Arnob, a fourth-year student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, criticized the administrative response, questioning their commitment to student safety. He alleged that the Vice-Chancellor had entered the campus with expelled elements, harassed faculty members, and arbitrarily suspended the salaries of teachers, officers, and staff, leading students to reject his leadership entirely.

Following exhaustive discussions in the presence of the District Commissioner and SP, an agreement was reached that the Vice-Chancellor would not return to campus in an official capacity. Subsequently, the Vice-Chancellor along with eleven associates departed the campus safely under police protection via an ambulance convoy, according to on-ground sources.
