Converging advanced methodologies across artificial intelligence, edge analytics, computer vision, and computational systems, the third iteration of the International Conference on Computing, Applications, and Systems (COMPAS 2026) was inaugurated on 09 October, Friday. Jointly organized by the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), University of Dhaka, the two-day academic symposium commenced at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy.

Inaugurating the assembly as the chief guest, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Mohammad Almozaddedi Alfechani remarked that academic excellence cannot be evaluated solely through publication tallies, citation metrics, or institutional rankings. He stated that research problem significance, reproducibility of experimental results, and direct societal benefits carry equal weight. Emphasizing the responsible use of datasets, research ethics, and integrity, he reaffirmed the university's commitment to facilitating shared computational laboratories and cross-departmental research.

Addressing the forum as a special guest, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Dr. Upama Kabir underscored the convergence of computing, robotics, algorithmic AI, IoT networks, energy systems, and materials science. She urged computational researchers to engineer practical applications addressing structural bottlenecks in healthcare, precision agriculture, transit operations, and climate adaptation.

Chairing the plenary session, CSE Department Chairman and COMPAS 2026 General Chair Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque noted that supporting emerging AI workloads necessitates state-of-the-art, GPU-driven High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure. He also urged public and private enterprises to grant academic researchers access to localized datasets to train large-scale foundation models. The opening session featured a keynote address by Prof. Latifur Khan from the University of Texas at Dallas, with IEEE Bangladesh Section Chair Prof. Dr. Mohammad Imamul Hasan Bhuiyan delivering remarks as a special guest.

Organizers noted that out of 616 technical papers submitted to this edition, 212 passed peer review to feature in technical tracks covering natural language processing, intelligent networks, and quantum architectures. The two-day international assembly concludes on 10 October, Saturday, following paper presentations, interactive workshops, and high-level plenary panels.
