Microsoft Event to Unveil the Future of Local AI PCs on October 7

Tech giant Microsoft is set to host a special event on artificial intelligence (AI) and PC technology in San Francisco on October 7. Centered on the theme “How Local AI Will Shape the Next Chapter of PCs,” the event will showcase innovations involving the Windows operating system, Nvidia’s new “RTX Spark” chipset, new devices under the Surface brand, and the broader PC ecosystem.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Microsoft Executive Vice President of Windows and Devices Pavan Davuluri will appear on the same stage as keynote speakers at the high-profile event.

Surface Laptop Ultra and Nvidia Spark Chip

A few months ago, Nvidia unveiled its first personal-computer-focused system-on-a-chip, the “RTX Spark,” for Windows.

It is expected that detailed information and the final market launch schedule for the “Surface Laptop Ultra,” reportedly powered by the new high-performance chipset, will be officially announced at the event.

Microsoft first revealed the laptop in June 2026 but has so far kept its pricing and availability under wraps. Pricing and release details for RTX Spark-powered laptops from other brands could also be finalized at the event.

A New Chapter for Cloud-Free ‘Local AI’

Microsoft and Nvidia share a broader vision of running powerful AI models and AI agents directly on computers without relying on the internet or cloud servers. Microsoft previously offered a glimpse of this type of hardware technology through its “Project Solara” device.

However, technology analysts believe that once PCs powered by Nvidia RTX Spark, with the ability to process AI directly on the device, enter the market, they could fundamentally change the computing experience for both everyday users and professionals.
