Threads Tests Auto-Transcription Feature to Boost Podcast Promotion
Meta is testing a new feature on its social networking platform Threads to make podcast promotion easier. Under the new feature, podcasts and audio clips shared on the app will automatically display written transcripts alongside the audio.
The feature will allow users to read the information contained in a podcast without turning on the sound while scrolling through their feeds. Threads head Connor Hayes recently confirmed the experimental feature in a post of his own.
How the Technology Will Work
Under the new system, whenever a podcast or audio file is posted on Threads, the speaker’s words will appear on the screen as text or subtitles in real time.
Connor Hayes said the feature is just one part of several new tools Threads is developing to support podcast creators.
The feature could be particularly useful in crowded places or other situations where playing audio aloud is inconvenient. Since Threads is primarily a text-based social network, adding written content alongside audio could also fit naturally with the platform’s overall experience, technology analysts say.
Long-Term Plan to Attract Podcasters
Audio and video creators are becoming increasingly important across digital platforms. Since last year, Meta has been introducing various tools to promote podcasts on its text-focused social network.
In June this year, Threads surpassed 500 million monthly active users. With such a large potential audience, the company considers specialized features for audio creators increasingly important to retaining podcasters and encouraging them to publish on the platform.
Although it is still unclear whether the experimental feature will eventually become available to all users, Threads’ growing focus on attracting content creators is being viewed positively.
