Popular social media platforms Facebook and Instagram have resumed normal operations after experiencing a sudden global outage that disrupted services for millions of users, including those in Bangladesh.

The Meta-owned platforms returned to normal at around 8:30 pm on Friday, following a widespread service disruption that began shortly after 8:00 pm. After nearly 30 minutes of technical difficulties, both the web and mobile app versions of Facebook and Instagram gradually started functioning again from approximately 8:22 pm onward.

During the outage, users around the world reported being unable to access or log in to Facebook through either web browsers or mobile applications. In many cases, active user sessions were unexpectedly logged out automatically. Similar problems were also reported on Instagram, Meta’s popular photo-sharing platform.

Users accessing Facebook via desktop and laptop computers appeared to be among the most affected. Many reported seeing warning messages indicating that their accounts were temporarily unavailable whenever they attempted to access the platform. The disruption was reported across North America, Europe, Asia, and several other regions simultaneously.

Following the outage, frustrated users quickly turned to X to share their experiences and seek information. As a result, the hashtag #FacebookDown rapidly became one of the platform’s top trending topics worldwide.

According to international media reports, many users initially feared their accounts had been hacked after being unexpectedly logged out. Others expressed concern that they had permanently lost access to personal or business pages built over many years.

One user wrote that they thought their account had been compromised, while another said they feared losing a long-established page. A third user humorously commented that Facebook had simply logged them out without warning. Similar reactions flooded social media as users attempted to determine whether the issue was affecting only their accounts or the platform as a whole.

Despite the widespread disruption, Meta has not yet provided a detailed explanation regarding the exact cause of the outage. The company has yet to confirm whether the incident was triggered by server failures, network configuration problems, or another technical issue.

The temporary disruption once again highlighted the dependence of billions of users on Facebook and Instagram for communication, business operations, content sharing, and social networking. Although services have now been restored, the incident caused significant concern and inconvenience for users worldwide.
