Google Cancels AI Studio Mobile App Before Launch, Integrates Features into Gemini
Google has long been known for discontinuing products and services, even those that appeared successful. This time, however, the company has gone a step further by permanently cancelling an artificial intelligence (AI) app before its official public release.
The app, called Google AI Studio, was being developed for both Android and iOS. It had generated significant interest among developers and general users alike, with pre-orders available through both the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store.
Despite attracting nearly 800,000 registrations ahead of launch, Google has decided not to release the mobile app.
AI Studio Features to Be Merged into Gemini
According to Google's AI Studio team, the company wants to avoid asking users to install yet another standalone application. Instead, it has chosen to integrate AI Studio's capabilities directly into its flagship AI platform, Gemini.
Under this new strategy, both mobile and desktop Gemini users will gain access to the tools that were originally planned for the dedicated AI Studio app.
What the App Was Designed to Do
Google AI Studio was intended to let users build, test, and experiment with AI-powered applications using Google's Gemini models. It was designed as a development environment where developers and advanced users could create customized AI experiences without relying on separate infrastructure.
Technology analysts note that Google frequently develops innovative technologies across different internal teams before consolidating them into its flagship products. Rather than launching another standalone application, the company has decided to strengthen the already widely used Gemini ecosystem by incorporating AI Studio's functionality into it.
As a result, users who had been waiting for the mobile version of Google AI Studio will instead receive those capabilities through future updates to the Gemini app.
Google also confirmed that, while the mobile application has been cancelled, the web version of AI Studio will continue to operate as usual.
