If you've been using Apple devices for a while, you've probably seen the familiar notification: "Your iCloud Storage Is Almost Full." With only 5GB of free iCloud storage, Apple's complimentary plan is no longer sufficient for most users. To expand storage, Apple offers two primary subscription options: iCloud+ and Apple One. But which one is the better choice?

What Is iCloud+ and How Much Does It Cost?

iCloud is Apple's cloud synchronization service that automatically backs up and syncs your photos, videos, files, notes, and other data across Apple devices. iCloud+ expands your cloud storage while adding several premium privacy features, including:

  • iCloud Private Relay: Encrypts your IP address and Safari web traffic for enhanced privacy.
  • Hide My Email: Lets you generate random email addresses instead of revealing your real one when signing up for apps or websites.
  • Custom Email Domain: Allows you to personalize your iCloud Mail using your own domain name.

For U.S. Apple ID accounts, the monthly pricing is:

  • 50GB: US$1 (includes support for one HomeKit Secure Video camera)
  • 200GB: US$3 (supports up to five HomeKit Secure Video cameras)
  • 2TB: US$10 (supports unlimited HomeKit Secure Video cameras)
  • 6TB: US$30
  • 12TB: US$60

Note: These prices apply to Apple IDs registered in the United States, including users in countries such as Bangladesh who use the U.S. App Store region.

What Is Apple One?

Apple One bundles several Apple subscription services into a single monthly plan. Depending on the tier, it includes iCloud+ storage along with services such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and more.

Current U.S. pricing includes:

  • Individual – US$20/month
    • 50GB iCloud+
    • Apple Music
    • Apple TV+
    • Apple Arcade
    • Buying these services separately would cost around US$32/month, offering roughly US$12 in monthly savings.
  • Family – US$26/month
    • 200GB iCloud+
    • Apple Music
    • Apple TV+
    • Apple Arcade
    • Shareable with up to five family members.
  • Premier – US$38/month
    • 2TB iCloud+
    • Apple Music
    • Apple TV+
    • Apple Arcade
    • Apple Fitness+
    • Apple News+
    • Offers approximately US$32/month in savings compared to subscribing separately.

Which One Should You Choose?

The decision largely depends on how you use Apple's ecosystem.

Choose iCloud+ if:

  • You only need additional cloud storage for photos, videos, files, and backups.
  • You don't regularly use Apple Music, Apple TV+, or Apple Arcade.
  • You want the most affordable storage upgrade.

Choose Apple One if:

  • You already subscribe to, or frequently use, multiple Apple services such as Apple Music or Apple TV+.
  • You want a bundled subscription that offers better overall value.
  • You have a family and want to share services under a single subscription.

What Happens If You Cancel or Downgrade?

Canceling your subscription does not immediately delete your files. However, if your stored data exceeds the free 5GB limit:

  • New photos, files, and device backups will no longer sync to iCloud.
  • Existing data remains accessible for a period, but you won't be able to upload additional content until you reduce storage usage or upgrade again.

According to Apple's policy, if a device does not back up to iCloud for 180 consecutive days, Apple reserves the right to delete that device's backup.

Before canceling an iCloud subscription, it's strongly recommended that you download important files and original photos to your Mac, iPhone, external storage drive, or another backup solution to prevent potential data loss.
