Saudi-based Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) has expressed strong interest in expanding investment in Bangladesh's maritime logistics sector by introducing advanced terminal management technologies, automation and modern port operations. The company believes technology-driven port modernization can significantly enhance Bangladesh's position as a regional logistics hub.

The issue was highlighted during a meeting held on 15 July, Wednesday, at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) headquarters in Dhaka between Saudi Deputy Minister for Transport and Logistics Dr. Rumaih Mohammed Al-Rumaih and BIDA Executive Chairman and PPP Authority CEO Ashik Chowdhury.

The Saudi Deputy Minister said RSGT's operations at Patenga Container Terminal of Chattogram Port have been successful, noting that more than 98 percent of its workforce in Bangladesh consists of local employees.

He said the company is now exploring further investment opportunities by improving terminal management capabilities, deploying advanced technologies, introducing automation and supporting the modernization of Bangladesh's maritime logistics ecosystem.

Dr. Al-Rumaih also noted that Saudi Arabia is actively positioning itself as a global logistics hub and is encouraging its leading companies to expand overseas investments. Bangladesh has emerged as one of the priority destinations for such cooperation.

During the discussion, both sides explored investment opportunities in smart logistics, cold-chain infrastructure, supply chain networks, port development, transport infrastructure and financial services.

BIDA Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury said Saudi investors have shown particular interest in technology-enabled logistics and integrated supply chain systems extending from cold storage facilities to seaports.

He added that Bangladesh is also prioritizing investment in financial services and is already working with several Saudi companies to help them better understand the country's investment opportunities and accelerate discussions on major projects.

Senior officials from the PPP Authority, BIDA and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) also attended the meeting.
